Rafting by Kyra

Another reflection....

I went rafting in the river with my friends. I got soaked by the
waves. I got to go in the river. I jumped in for fun. I had a great
time.

Sketch Horse

We went to horseback riding, and the drawing is the horse that I rode on. I learned really cool techniques of how to ride the horse. Also, I thought this particular horse (above) was pretty, and that is why I drew it. I am happy that I chose horseback riding for my first choice for outdoor pursuits.

P. S. This is hanging at DMC. Keep posted for more examples because we decorate the camp.

Our First Birthday

Another throw back in time....

Our first birthday of the summer at DMC!  Look at that awesome cake!

Congratulations Alex!

Thanks for kicking off a string of birthdays coming up.

Stay tuned!

DAY IN OURAY

This past weekend we did one of our best weekend trips of the summer.  Everyone packed into the vans with warm clothes, swimming clothes, skateboards, folding chairs, sleeping bags, a picnic lunch, dessert, and various individual items for the trip.  We drove over Engineer Pass then Molas Pass and marveled at the alpine scenery and the various waterfalls flowing with the summer thaw.  We had our lunch in a quiet valley that wasn't so quiet while we were there.

After lunch we got back into the vans and headed over Red Mountain Pass to Ouray and their famous hot springs.  The kids (and MJ and Christine) raced each other on the inflatable obstacle course.  After the pool, we unleashed the campers on the town to eat dinner and play "Bigger or Better."  After that we walked to the base of a 200 foot tall waterfall then back in the vans. We headed over to Silverton to watch one of the most amazing fireworks shows in America.  The echoing booms off the steep canyon walls created a unique sound effect.

It will be hard to top a day like last Saturday (The Fourth of July), but we'll try again tomorrow.

Memory Monday

At DMC memories are made quickly. So quick in fact, we already have our first throwback blog of the summer. This one is from Cassidy reflecting on the day campers first arrived...

After a busy week of preparing for the campers arrival, the staff was eager to fill the DMC campus. Watching friendships be rekindled as returns arrived and new faces settle in, camp was off to an exciting start. Bonding games were a success as campers were introduced into the camp flo. Cabin meetings were next on the agenda. Counselors directed the meetings as cabin mates got to know one another as well as how camp is run. After a delicious treat the campers setted into their cabins exhausted from the long day.
