HI Parents and Friends of DMC,
It’s hard to believe, but today marks the halfway
point of DMC.  Most of the academic progress occurs during the second
half as the campers have solidified their foundation and will hopefully
be moving forward rapidly over the next 2 +
 weeks.
Camp goes very well –  with a smooth week
logistically and cooperating weather, although the monsoons have moved
into Colorado and we are constantly dodging thundershowers in the
afternoons.  However the moisture and cooler temperatures
 are much appreciated.
This past weekend was our camp-out and boating
weekend at Vallecito Lake.  It hasn’t rained at night since May, but of
course at 9:45 PM on Friday night, a fierce storm moved in with
torrential rains and sustained lightning and thunder.
When that happened we abandoned the campfire and dove into the tents.
Fortunately Saturday morning dawned clear and we had a fine morning on
the lake.  We had 3 pontoon boats and a speedboat to pull the tubers.
Some of the campers wanted a mellow ride just
to cruise over the water, while others wanted to get wild, and we
always have some wipeouts. (see attached photos).
At @ 1 PM, we got off the lake with the clouds
building and the winds picking up and had lunch on the dock, then headed
back to the campsite to pretty good rain squalls.  After talking the
schedule over the campers and staff wanted to stay
even in the rain.  Then the weather turned nice and we had a great
outdoor afternoon and night – with even a “supermoon" rising.
Sunday was dry, and we had a relaxed morning before packing up and returning to DMC.  Overall a fine, fine weekend.
This next weekend is “Camper/Counselor” choice
where the campers and staff choose activities of particular interest for
the campers.  It should be fun and I’ll keep you updated.
Except for a few speed bumps here and there, the
campers are healthy, engaged, energetic, and embracing their very full
schedule.
Camp is good!
